eBay-PayPal Tie-Up Draws Complaints In Germany

This has not been a great week for American tech companies trying to do business in Europe.  First, Google got in trouble over allegedly anticompetitive search practices and its policy on Street View data retention.  Now, German antitrust authorities are looking at the way in which eBay has supported PayPal.

John Oates explained earlier today, "eBay.de recently asked sellers with low feedback points to offer PayPal.  The company justified the move because it said the number of bad buying experiences is twice as high from sellers with less than 50 feedback points than the average."

But some people are less than pleased with the change, and as a result, "[T]he German Federal Cartel Office is investigating complaints made against eBay over this tying policy."

Since the promotion of PayPal should increase its market share and help eBay earn more money, they may have a point.  eBay's liable to have trouble arguing that there's no other way it could protect buyers, at least.

As always, we'll see what happens.  German authorities haven't yet launched a full investigation or given an indication which way they're leaning.  eBay, for its part, is still more in "dialogue" than "sound the alarm" mode.

Dirty Trick #17: Let’s Be Partners

Before I tell you about this dirty trick, let me ask you a question. How much easier do you think it would be for one person to sell a box of cookies door to door, as compared to 50 people selling them door to door?

Exactly! There is strength in numbers. And that is what this dirty little monster is all about. Building your numbers with an affiliate program and using it as a Joint Venture opportunity for your site visitors, or customers.

What’s the best way to build yourself an army of partners? Let them earn money from any sales they make of your product through their special little affiliate link for FREE.

Yep. Let them sign up for your affiliate program with NO PAY IN. And when I say the words “no pay in” what I mean is, don’t try and use the “You must first order a copy of my product before you can become an affiliate”.

It won’t work as well for you. Think of it this way, if you make your potential JV partners pay for the chance to try and earn some profits from selling your product, then they’re taking a bigger risk by actually spending some of their own cash first. Not good for the affiliate.

But, in contrast, if you offer them a FREE opportunity to test out selling your product via your JV program, you’ll likely see a bigger partner sign up rate and flowing right along, a bigger profit rate too.

Again, this little monster is highly recommended to any person that wants to make more money with less work. Realistically, this is the only way you can do that.

18. Do not adjust any settings. You can minimize the window and still work on your normal computer wok. It will just continue on clicking the search engines and will never interfere with what you do. These are search engines that use up or get a run through this particular program. They are doing this and making payments to improve or increase their numbers so they can have a better chance to compete with google or yahoo.
